Converting Extended Types to Relations

Please, somebody help me. What is extended types? My professor is asking this from us, and I just don't know where to start. I looked it up in my textbook and I can't find it?/ don't know where to find it, can somebody give me a short eli5 of what he wants? :C

Describe the methods for converting inherited types, or superclass/subclasses instances. Include the four options for conversion and describe the tradeoffs of using each one in terms of total/partial participation and support for overlapping/disjoint subtypes. Then, describe how to represent union types.
