2 quick questions from a newbie

I'm just getting into this, hoarding ebooks and mp3 files of podcasts, and I have a couple of questions:
Can Mp3 files be compressed using 7zip?
And, what do you guys use to download mp3s off of Youtube? I used to use the program from DVDVideoSoft, but they recently went "buy our non-free version or we'll throttle your speed basically to death so that a 3 minute file takes half an hour to download." I now use FLV, which is a in-browser downloader, but I can't download files longer than 2 hours.
