Winners, losers. They always exist in these kinds of Anime. Usually, it's the good guys who win. Rarely, it's the bad guys who win.

Then there's End of Evangelion, but, well.

This sub has been lacking serious discussions lately, so I've decided to compile a... List, of sorts.

Who won this Anime? Who lost? And where did it all lead up too? All good questions, I think, so first we'll discuss the

Winners

It's clear to all of us that Squad Thirteen, and, by proxy, the rest of the Parasite Corps, are seemingly the winners despite having done nearly nothing to deserve it and almost everything to hinder it. Thanks to the selfless sacrifice of two of their comrades, one of which was ostracized by the wider Parasite community and the other considered a defective prodigy (at worst), they were able to live peacefully for the rest of their days, and begin the process of rebuilding society.

Except, they weren't the real winners.

That prize goes to Nana, Hachi, and Doctor Frank.

Why, you ask? Well, Nana and Hachi are simple. As far as I recall, they are the only adults (or pseudo-adults, I'm not sure) to survive VIRMs secondary invasion. Not only that; they managed to survive with their immortality intact. If they play their cards right, they could easily become the immortal rulers of Earth, if they were so inclined.

And then there's Frank.

He died with no qualms, no regrets. He got to see his greatest work in all it's majestic glory, and died basking in it's splendour. Certainly a win for him.

Then last, but certainly not least, our favorite Jian. Well, in the end, they got reincarnated, lived presumably better lives, and met each other again. That's a win.

Phew! Okay, that's done. Now, we move onto the

Losers

VIRM. Definitely the losers here, and for good reasons that I assume everyone realizes. They got what they deserved.

But they weren't the real losers.

It's her.

And them.

Think about it for a moment. The Princess has lost everything, from her people, to culture. Family, friends, lovers, comrades, confidents...

And to top it all of, what remains of the people have basically turned into the very thing they soughht go destroy; mindless beasts taking order from one singularity. Her.

Out of all the 'factions' and people in DiTF, it's her who comes closer--, nay, surpasses Shinji Ikari in terms if loss.

Because, in the End, Shinji still had his life. 001 did not.

... ... ...
