Just started?

The introduction sequence was confusing. I was a priest? then I went out for gasoline, and I found a person and I tortured him? and then I was that person? and I helped someone out but they tried to kill me? so I killed them? and then monsters came out and I died? but I really didn't die and I was saved by someone wearing kitchen mitts? and I awake in a house, and I collect stuff and I kill 1 dog and then the person with kitchen mitts shows up? What the hell is going on?? and why the wolf guy calls me meat? also, who am I?

Appreciate not giving me spoilers? Just the whole thing was confusing?

On a side note I sold a shiny stone, is this bad? should I keep them?
