Should I play DS 1 before I start 3?

For some reason I grabbed Darksiders 2 on PlayStation but never picked up 1. Been loving playing it and coming up on the end. The Zelda vibes, small open worlds and hack and slash gameplay is hitting all the right notes for me. I have Darksiders 3 from a free PS Plus month and was going to head there next. Should I change that plan and circle back before moving forward?
