Does the champions covenant actually make enemies do more damage and have more health

I just looked up a ign article about covenants in ds2 and it said that being in the covenant does that.Ive been in that covenant the whole time lol. I just joined the blue sentinels though because of that because im not really looking for any extra challenge.
