Was Roger’s character intended to be as funny as he was?
Post Body

I see Roger mainly as a villain (I’m still on Beginnings… No spoilers, please!)…

Roger’s wit and sarcasm came off as hysterical to me sometimes. Was his character meant to have comedic moments? Was his character intended to make the audience laugh at times? Because some of his lines are ripe for a sitcom!

I couldn’t help but laugh at his sarcasm which was sometimes confusing for me because the show is a drama yet his funniest lines were often made during very serious discussions with Elizabeth about his son.

In another example, in season 5, episode 24, Dr. Guthrie tells Roger that if Roger agrees to a seance, he will leave Collinwood. Roger is eager for Dr. Guthrie to leave the house, so he goes over to the Vickie and Carolyn and says, “Okay, girls! Join hands!”

By far, my favorite Roger moment so far!
