First of all, before I start anything, IT HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED YET. Nothing has been confirmed, just theories here and there about a possible scream game being in development and SM somehow being tied to it.

Anyways, here’s how I‘d want it to be like:

What defines Scream? Scream, at its core, is a META Slasher whodunnit, filled with fun gorey kills, intense chase sequences and an emotional core cast of characters. That‘s what a good scream movie is, so SM should strive for that and honestly, I think they’d do great

For one, SM have done phenomenal work with giving us the atmosphere of a fun slasher flick with the Quarry and Until Dawn, and it can especially be felt in TQ. Even with a modern environment, it doesn’t lose that feel of an 80s slasher and I hope they can do the same with a Scream Game.

The characters are also a big part of what makes Scream the franchise it is. They’re able to break the 4th wall and see past the common horror tropes; like with Mindy and Randy. This is what scares me aswell if SM were to develop it since they’ve been generally pretty hit or miss with Characters. But they seem to be improving since we’ve got some notable fan favorites like Dylan, Charlie, Erin and Kaitlyn who have been generally well liked. The entire Cast of TDIM are a general improvement over the past rigid or corny characters. Hopefully they can keep the charm of Scream Characters

Animation is another thing about the game that worries me. Until Dawn had great animation quality but that’s with a much bigger budget. Maybe they’ll have that budget again with a big franchise like Scream but that’s not certain. Bad face animations, clunky movement, poor effects; they could all really ruin the experience. But Scream doesn’t have any monsters, or possessions or insanely over the top deaths—it’s a lot more realistic in it’s field and that’ll benefit the game.

Overall, my favorite part about the thought of a Supermassive-styled Scream game is the Killers. Wondering who killed who is a big part of the Franchise and this game could do something very creative in this new medium.

You get to change who the killer is.

Think about it, Scream always takes time to make a slew of people be culpable to become the killer, everyone has a motive in Scream. So we can really dive into that, maybe in the Prologue different choices make different possible killers, betraying one character makes them the killer or helping someone else makes the other a killer. Maybe it would rather be controlled by the curator of the game, your choices in the Curator section changes who the killer was. Or maybe it could just be randomly selected in the game.

Ofcourse—and I always have to preface this; this is a lot. You‘re talking about a possible killer list of up to 8, but I think this would be the best way to do a Scream game and do it right. They should make the game shorter, a smaller cast; less variables to deal with.

GAME IDEA

Seven Characters all go to an isolated location, alone. Throughout the course of the game, your choices aren’t just impacting who lives or dies, but who the killer actually is. The cast deals with phone calls, horror trivia, META jokes—they begin to accuse one another. Ofcourse, whoever is the killer can still be played as, but their possible deaths would be replaced with fake outs—something Supermassive already loves to do. But the game always hides a bit of every character, never giving you too much information so you can’t be sure on their innocence. And by the 3rd Act, the Killer has revealed themselves and done their whole evil monologue—maybe every different Killer has different motivations and maybe they’ll even fight differently.
