Hi Guys, had an idea which I think could be fun for mid level characters and wondered if folk think it's too far out of bounds or if it has legs as a game idea.
I'm thinking it'd be amusing to have the players investigate what initially appears to be normal heretical cult, only for them to discover it's a Christian remnant cult, devoted to bringing bout the end of days and are looking to summon the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Pestilence would easily be mistaken as a nurgle creature.
The characters slowly find lore and files to let them know the actual threat. Then it's about stopping the end of days.
I'm just looking forward to seeing my players faces when they realise that yes, it's the actual four horsemen
Damn, well, seems folk think it could have legs, excellent. Though, now that I consider it, I'm gonna have to do some bible study to get the right level of outrageous psychedelic insanity the bible contains, I'm thinking of you, angels with more eyes than a hentai has tentacles, this is gonna be interesting

It's not inconceivable that a sect survived the dark age of technology in a different world and the devout members of the cult hid the scripts etc during their compliance. It then was kept going in secret for a few thousand years.
If they're, the cult, aren't "being loud" and didn't previously cause any unusual stuff. I can see the imperium not catching and shutting it down. I'm thinking there is an Inquisition file on the cult but it'd be dismissed as no threat so not cleaned up
