They are a traditional African accessory. People can choose to wear them or not. Children, well in my culture we used to get string tied around our waist which stayed on for years and couldn’t be taken off, as a form of protection I believe and that gets cut when we get to a certain age. But waist beads are worn by choice and they are basically there to embrace fertility, spiritual well-being, etc. Basically everything that makes us women❤️
