Sorry folks, I'm a day late, so voting will go into sometime on October 1st and those elected will immediately take office. September has gone by fast, and while I didn't accomplish everything I wanted to do, I'm proud of the small achievements this month, and I hope my contributions to the bureaucracy and overall political culture will have a lasting effect.
With that being said, all 3 of our executive positions are up for election, and they include the following:
- The Foreign Minister
The Foreign Minister is the official representative of the FDR in all foreign affairs. They act as our spokesperson and have the ability to draft treaties and deals with foreign nations, though those treaties and deals must be run by the citizens for a normal vote. The FM can establish diplomatic relations with nations as they see fit and can build embassies in foreign nations unilaterally).
- The Interior Minister
The Interior Minister is our prime data collector and land manager for the Republic. Something of a dual-wielding position, the IM is in charge of posting and maintaining the monthly census for their term and calling the next election at the end of it; additionally, it's up to the IM to create and maintain a map of our land claims, both for the purposes of establishing specifically zoned areas as well as for ensuring no foreigners have secretly built on our land.
- The Defense Minister
The one with arguably the most power of them all, the Defense Minister is in charge of the defense of the nation and law and order within it. They must maintain a standing militia and ensure our safety from threats, both foreign and domestic, through the procurement of defensive infrastructure like bunkers, vaults, and snitch networks. Additionally, the DM may call a "time of crisis" when needed to expand their powers in times of grave danger. But of course, such a powerful position does not come without a cost, as the DM is probably the most accountable position that can be subject to not only immediate recall but also punitive punishments.
You can read the full description of each of these positions in our constitution.
Candidates will have 72 hours from the time of this post to declare their candidacy, and they must do so in this thread. They can also post a platform of theirs, either also in this thread or as its own post on the subreddit. Voting will be held for 48 hours, and on October 1st, the winners will be announced and take their seats the same day.
Our elections are decided by instant-runoff ranked-choice vote. This means that you have the opportunity to not just vote for one candidate per position but for all candidates in a numbered list, to which points will be doled out to them accordingly. For example, if 3 people are running for Foreign Minister, your first choice candidate will receive 3 points, your second choice will receive 2 points, and your last choice will get 1 point. The candidate with the most points per position wins.
Good luck everyone!
