With the recent pearling of Mr_Pika64, I’ve taken the liberty of drafting a trial post template. The purpose of this template is to ensure :

• The basic facts of the case are established: crimes, location, evidence, etc.
• Instructions are provided to the citizens about how to participate in the trial
• A summary of Danzilonan Criminal Law is provided for citizens, the accused, and those present
• (The instructions and summary should be included at the end of each trial post, as shown in the template)

The specific details can be debated, but I wanted to propose this as the jumping off point for the general trial process moving forward.

Trial Instructions:

The trial period lasts from the time this post is submitted to /r/Danzilona to 48 hours (two days) after that time. If the Accused is able to be contacted, the Accused shall be informed of their trial and a link provided to this post. The trial shall commence whether or not the Accused is present or has been informed of their trial.

Citizens may ask questions or for more proof from the Accuser, and the Accuser is encouraged to respond in order to strengthen their case. Citizens may also ask questions or for evidence from the Accused, and the Accused may participate in the discussion of their alleged actions. The Accused is not obligated to participate, but their lack of participation may be used against them. Residents and non-citizens may participate in the discussion, especially as witnesses, but shall not vote.

Citizens shall vote “Aye” for a vote of guilty, and vote “Nay” for a vote of innocent. Votes may be changed at any time during the trial period, as evidence changes and arguments are made. Unless disputed by two or more citizens, a vote for guilt shall also be a vote for the requested sentence. In the case of a guilty verdict and a disputed sentence, a new post shall be made for a sentencing vote.

After the trial period, the votes shall be counted. If a majority vote for “Nay” is counted, the accused is freed as soon as possible. If a majority vote of “Aye” is counted, the accused shall serve the sentence requested. If the sentence was disputed, a new vote shall be held to determine the sentence.

Summary of Danzilonan Criminal Law:

Per Article I of the Constitution, All individuals pearled in the Free Danzilonan Republic (FDR) are considered innocent of their accused actions until determined guilty, and are entitled to a trial by the Citizens of the Free Danzilonan Republic. Guilt or innocence, and the sentence in cases of guilt, is determined by a majority vote. Griefing, defined as the placement or removal of blocks on FDR claims without the consent of the owner, is a crime explicitly prohibited in the Constitution. Bounty Hunting on FDR claims for crimes not committed on FDR claims or against FDR Citizens is prohibited unless the bounty is on the Defense Minister’s list. Other crimes may be defined in the FDR Code as enacted by the citizens.
