Roark's Traditionalist Party Platform for June
Post Body

First, let me just say that I'm honored to be running against grenadeninja for City Manager. He was Infrastructure Rep back in April when I was first elected to the position and I learned a lot from him.

The Traditionalist Party strives to maintain a small government and limit the government's power over its citizens. We want to help you, the private citizen, be free to do whatever business you want in NDZ. The marketplace is a great example of this. Weish created markets for players without ever requiring a vote. There's a lot of talk about how bureaucratic our town is becoming with red tape and such but I think that's just because we've been putting too much power in the hands of the government. The citizens run this town, and the government should merely stand back and let them go.

The Treasury

It's no secret that I'm not a big fan of this project. I actually helped Azelair come up with some of the ideas but I quickly realized afterwards that the project itself was best left to enterprising private citizens working for the betterment of their community. A government-run treasury will open up possible corruption, misuse, and abuse of power that NDZ greatly fears. We've always seemed to strive to have this small government and I feel we must continue that trend.

So, if elected City Manager, I will not work to abolish the Treasury but rather try and leave it open to private citizens who want to volunteer and work on it. The government should have no stake in the Treasury so that the government cannot abuse it. I'm not opposed to the government opening up an account in a privately-owned back, but for the government itself to hold the wealth of the citizens just seems to ask for problems.

The Treasurer position will be left up to you, the citizens, to choose. Essentially, this will turn the Treasury into a privately-owned bank, which can house everyone's wealth more securely and without the potential for government corruption.

Plot Kickbacks

I've recently seen this issue come up and I must say I'm opposed. When the people running for office are running for any other reason other than to help the great city of NDZ then we're going to have problems. Elected officials should not make any source of money for any of their services, because then it creates a conflict of interest to sell plots to new citizens without caring about the town, only yourself.

It's the same reason I'm opposed to the Treasury being government-owned; money and government are a bad mix, and likely to be even worse on a Minecraft server. Players could promise whatever they wanted, get elected, then run out of the Treasury with an inventory full of diamonds. People could run for office and essentially become lame ducks, not doing anything except collect their paycheck for their "services," at the end of every month. We need to avoid bringing money into the politics of NDZ, and if we do decide to do it then it must be in a well thought out and very careful manner.

Politicians will always fight for a bigger paycheck, but I'm fighting for you, the citizens of NDZ. Don't let them try and convince you that being paid would help the town rather than just themselves. I've been an Infrastructure Representative for two months without pay and I'd happily do it again, free of charge. Your government should be working for you, not for themselves. Keep money out of politics!
