When I started dancing many years ago, the social etiquette was more or less that everybody danced with everybody else.
On Saturday I attended a social Bachata and salsa dance, and has happened for me so often, It seems most of the better followers avoided me like the plague. It has become very cliquish.
I believe that to some degree this is because they are tight with other students from their respective studios.
It’s very discouraging. I think it’s very rude. I wish the culture would be much more welcoming, and more interested in having fun than showing off and being competitive. Makes me feel like giving up.
