Why doesn’t plane food taste good? At 35,000ft the human tongue goes partially numb, causing loss of approx 1/3 of taste buds. The noise [80-85dB] also dulls sensitivity to salty and sugary flavours whilst enhancing umami. This explains why air passengers order tomato juice more often than beer.

I do a lot of small plane/bush plane travel in Alaska. There’s an airline that still hands out fresh baked cookies that are made by some people in the community. They are the best and by far my favorite part of my trip.
