Dr. Richard Axel was hilariously incompetent as a medical student, so he struck a deal with the Johns Hopkins dean to receive an MD on the condition that he would never practice medicine. He then switched to biological research and won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2004 for his work on olfaction.
