Oh I'm sure the Icelandic disaster managers have thought this through more than redditors.
iirc they just need to divert it away from a small area where the geothermal district heating pipelines go through. Most Icelandic houses have their hot water and heating from central plant, so if the pipeline is broken they'll lose heating.
