Foundation soil stability

Post Body

First time home buyer with 2 little kids and I need a bit of help.

I've installed a soaker hose drip line around my foundation which I run 30m per day and will scale down as weather cools.

What else can be done to stabilize the soil around the foundation?

Add gravel? Add mulch? Artifical turf?

Also, my side yard gets loads of sun from 4pm to 8pm.

I want to add shade for the summer. I do not want to plant trees because they'll take more moisture out of the soil and take a whole to mature.

What can I do on a budget to shade my side yard from 4pm to 8pm?

Thank you so much.
