I’m drunk and both my dog and I are asking.
Monday morning hungover update:
Y’all really delivered on this one.
For those who actually want to know:
Typical squirrel populations in Texas have ranged from 6.49 squirrels per acre in 1989 (herein abbreviated as SPA) to a current low of 0.36 SPA in 2022.
This is based on, I shit you not, a Texas Squirrel Census that has been conducted since 1961 by Gus Engeling? He measures SPA using… whatever look it up if you want to know. He’s pretty methodical and I’m already deep in the weeds here.
They think these winter storms have been hitting squirrel populations pretty hard.
Thus, if we take the acreage of DFW (oh let’s just include Dallas, Denton, Tarrant, and Rockwall Counties) which roughly totals 2,440,400 acres. Bigger than Puerto Rico.
2,440,400 x 0.36 = 878,544
We have roughly 900,000 squirrels.
