Jeffrey Dahmer documentary 2017 & my thoughts about Lionel Dahmer

Post Body

I just watched the 2017 documentary on Jeffrey Dahmer and was immediately repulsed by Lionel Dahmer. As much as I feel for Lionel and am truly sorry for what he and the Dahmer family went through. The fact that he only blames Jeffrey's mother for his son becoming the way he was, that he refers to Joyce as Jeffrey's "creator" and then all this religious nonsense (sorry) and claiming Jeff was "not with God" is another reason why he started killing people kind of turned me against him. I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for Jeffrey (not for his actions) because his father never accepted his homosexuality and still doesn't, he still "fights" with Joyce even after her death because he only blames her and all that religious stuff that clearly didn't help Jeffrey when he was younger.

I also find it a bit odd that he never really got angry with Jeffrey. Of course, it wouldn't have helped in the end and after the trial, but somehow I think that also reflects the kind of reactions that Jeffrey never really faced when he got away with everything - not from the police, not from the authorities, etc., not from his parents or the teachers, when he was drunk all the time at school, and so on. Just a sad story with a sad ending of a person who got away with everything, whose sexual orientation and mental state was never really accepted, never given sincere affection but also never had to face harsh consequences.
