Not a father, but I really want to be someday. I’m only in my twenties and am nowhere near being ready to support a family—financially at least. But I really want to hear some good advice and stories of how you do it. My biggest fear is my kid not liking me, or not wanting to speak to me or just generally not knowing that I love them. My father hasn’t seen or spoken to me in almost 10 years, so I don’t have anyone to ask.
Dads of Reddit, won’t you be mine :)
My biggest advice is this: never ever take anything bad your child does or say personaly.. and always stay calm, regardless of how big of a tantrum the child has. If you stay calm, even when your child are bat-shit-crazy-angry, he/she will learn that you are the support your child need when in distress. And will love you for it!

This morning, was laying in my bed with my 4 month old. Just chilling, and talking.. well, I was talking and she was laughing. 😊
Was great.. then out of nowhere her arm spasmed and flew straight for my face, landing a finger, with a sharp fingernail, straight into eye!!
My insides where screaming like crazy, all kinds of profanities just wanted to get out of my mouth..
But all I did was turn my head to the side and said; "what was that for? I thought you liked me.. but it's okay, because I love you anyway!" And we continued talking. 😊
But my eye stil kind of hurt..
