Dabs smell like pine

I recently bought some concentrate off of one of my acquaintances. Based on the way they smell(like pine with a slight hint of weed) and the overall appearance l feel like I should definitely bring this to his attention and ask for my money back. I soaked a small sample of this is isopropyl and it all dissolved. I still don’t trust it. Could this possibly be pine tar?
