This was the first time in my adult life that I had actually been interested and paid attention to pre election promises - largely due to the helpful information posted on this sub. I had my polling card ready, set a reminder on my calendar and checked where my local polling station was.
Then last Friday I was admitted to hospital as an emergency due to gallstones causing acute pancreatitis. Thought I'd be out in a few days. Nope.
Yesterday staff came round to ask if we wanted a proxy vote, apparently there are special dispensations for hospital patients. Yes! I was very pleased! They'd be round later with the staff member assigned as our proxy to confirm our votes. Noone came. I did fall asleep at around 9pm so could possibly have missed it but they had no issues waking me up for obs and meds!
So Labour lost. Rest of the ward I was on along with the staff were unhappy when we found out in the morning. Apparently there was a further issue in that the hospital had been using PENCILS to complete voting slips...argh!
I usually am full of praise for my local hospital since I am practically a resident there and generally receive excellent care. But this stupidity, along with the fact that they've discharged me home without giving me any of the new medication my consultant had insisted that I be on for 24hrs before leaving then have further bloods to check my (unknown) infection was getting better has really irritated me.
