[F] A Prologue to the World of My Writing
Author Summary

Post Body

Hello everyone, I am u/Hauhtonen, a somewhat prolific writer on DirtyPenPals who originates from the northern nation of Finland. This has been my hobby for a few years now, and it has obviously had its ups and downs. Sometimes I am more than excited about the thought of posting a prompt of mine to the subreddit, and other times, I can’t even bring myself to open DPP for weeks. Lately though, I feel like I’ve found the correct balance between the two extremums, and I’ve found my writing to become more consistent. Why don’t we move on to the first question you might come to ask about me?

What do I like?

This is probably the most decisive factor when it comes to searching for partners. A matching set of likes and dislikes will always make roleplaying a truly joyful experience, and on the contrary, when two writers don’t mesh that well, the story will also suffer as a result. In terms of interests, I’ve always been fascinated by team sports such as football or ice hockey, and historical themes are also usually present on my posts. I’m mostly curious about both ancient history, especially the Archaic and Classical eras of Greek history, and more modern history, such as the events during the Cold War. One unorthodox interest I’ve always had is the Soviet-Afghan war, strangely enough. You’re certainly free to test my knowledge on that subject, I am more than ready for a challenge! :)

In terms of my likes in the subject of smut, I mostly lean towards the more vanilla side of things. Romance is a crucial part for me in almost any story, and this nicely leads me to my second point; I want there to be some actual build-up to the more spicy scenes, perhaps through some sort of a character or a relationship arc, as opposed to just pitting two people against them in a bedroom and seeing what happens. I want there to be a reason, a justification, why the two people would make sweet love to each other. I want to write a story that features two people, and not just two sets of human genitals. I am open to F4F, F4M, and F4NB pairings. Trans women are women, trans men are men, NBs are just as valid as everyone else, I am not here to discriminate against anyone’s gender identity.

Roleplay-wise, a true special interest of mine is worldbuilding. I really do love it, and I honestly could just build worlds around our characters for weeks upon weeks without actually writing a single word in-character. I feel like this intertwines rather well with my interest in history and sports, as both offer a lot of potential for extensive world-building. Think about creating a new ancient city-state or a fictional football team, I can certainly help you with that!

How do I write?

This is another important point. Everyone has unique preferences when it comes to actually writing in a roleplay. I don’t wish to label myself as literate, ad-lit, or anything else like that, as I feel like those words have differing standards to just about anybody partaking in this hobby. What I will say is that I usually write 3-6 paragraphs per post, usually in the realm of 400-800 words per post. Still, this is merely a rough estimate, and I don’t want arbitrary limitations to be the deciding factor when I’m on the hunt for a partner. I consider my grammar to be good, though I might make some mistakes here and there as English is not my native tongue, some more semantic and some less. What I am more adamant about is writing in third person, past tense. This is a hard limit for me, sorry. I’ve just had too many bad experiences with people who write in first person, as they seem to constantly mix IC and OOC interactions.

In terms of the actual content of my writing, I often like to go in-depth about the internal thoughts and monologue that my characters might have. I enjoy describing emotions and the appearances of people, and I’ll admit that I sometimes go too far with narrating even the most minor, minute details. Fluff is a bit of a sin of mine when it comes to writing, though I still want to always ensure that my posts carry the story forwards at least by a tiny margin.

In terms of my preferred writing medium, I’m open to most platforms, though I prefer either Reddit DMs (not chat!!!) or Discord. Google Docs is also an option, although I’ve never tried it out myself. Email is not my cup of tea, apologies for the more old-school members of this community who I probably pissed off by that statement!

What are my do-nots?

Do not call me by any pet names. Please, seriously. I’m not your babygirl, babe, sweetheart or cutie. Those words are strange to use on a complete stranger over on the internet, and in some cases, seriously demeaning and belittling to the point that I consider them to be pejoratives.

Do not insist upon including BDSM or an unfitting sub-dom dynamic into the story.

Those are my two do-nots that I wish to accentuate, nothing more, nothing less. These are the things that I am the most resolute in, other than that, I am fairly easy-going and lax.

When, and how often do I write?

I live in the GMT 2 time zone, and I usually aim to write at least one post per day. I am the most active on weekends. I aim for quality over quantity, and I wish to ensure that all of my posts share a similar level of writing.

I’d say that about does it for now, I think I’ve introduced myself rather extensively to you all. If you found this to be interesting, don’t be shy about checking out the prompts I have posted on my profile!
