If Looks Could Kill They Probably Will
The future was one of unlimited frontiers, limitless resources, and lifespans that seemed synonymous with immortality. With nothing to fight over and nothing worth dying for you might easily assume that war had become a thing of the past. That humanity would evolve beyond their bloody history and walk into the future with heads held high. But of course, that never happens, does it? Not when there is money to be made.
Max Graff was, in simply the strictest definition of the law, a criminal. In his eyes, he was the victim really. Living in a concrete jungle where the uber wealthy lived literally amongst the clouds, the rest of humanity was forced to eek out a living in the shadows of those towering skyscrapers. Was he really to be blamed for seeing an advantage and seizing it? Sure, ANGels were banned on Earth, but he hadn't been the one to bring it here, he'd simply found it and turned it on.
There were times, especially at night when he sat alone in the quiet little apartment, that he felt bad for all the lives they had taken. All the petty crooks and junkies who would never get a second chance, never were given the opportunity to reform their ways. People that were more like him then the lawmen who paid their bounties. Still, a guy had to eat right? And it was better to be the bounty hunter than the one with the bounty on his head. Max looked at his reflection in the sliding glass door. His emerald eyes still seemed to sparkle and his chestnut brown hair hadn't thinned or turned grey. He was even starting to get muscles on his tall and normally lanky body. He flexed his arms a little, impressed that he no longer was just skin and bones.
The ANGels were an advanced weapon used to wage wars off planet. A deadly blend of organic and synthetic tissue, they were programmed to be brutal fighters, brilliant strategists, and deadly assassins. They were so good at their intended duties, that years after being created, they were banned from Earth. Max never knew how the woman he'd found in a pile of trash got there, but he knew what she was capable of. He always thought it weird that the ANGels were all designed to look like the ideal woman, but he figured the rich were all depraved to begin with so they probably just got off on hot women living and dying so that they could afford one more beach house.
Still, his new partner and live in roommate was an engineered death machine which made her an exceptionally skilled bounty hunter. She probably would have killed Max too when he'd first brought her online, if he hadn't been trying to use her for... other means. Somehow the bootleg sex-droid software he'd pirated had crossed the ANGel's memory banks and so instead of being a cold-hearted killer, she had become infatuated with the boy who had found her. To the point of almost pet-like devotion. Max felt a little bad about it, but he also liked not being killed by the organic weapon. Sometimes when he watched her, his partner reminded him of a house-cat. She just sort of, did her own thing until she wanted attention, and then she wouldn't leave him alone. No not a pet cat, the ANGel was a panther that had decided she liked Max as an owner, rather than a snack.
He was deep in thought about the morality of the entire situation he found himself in yet again, when a hooded figure dropped onto the patio outside. They lived on the 31st floor with another 60 or so floors above them. Max was always impressed when she came home. Falling like and angel from the sky, back to his door...
Hello there, thanks for reading my rambling SciFi prompt! This setting is inspired in equal parts from Bladerunner, Battle Angel Alita, and Peter Gabriel lyrics. Imagine a technological future where attractive women fight wars out amongst the stars and some hapless two-bit code monkey accidentally adopts one. I'm imagining a very strong 80's future here so bring your cyberpunk and your SciFi anime tropes along for the ride! I left the ANGel's description and name vague so in your first response to me, please go over what you imagine her to look like. Hope to hear from you soon!
