Hi everyone! I'm considering buying a 2004 Toyota 4Runner in the Bay Area that currently has Canadian license plates. The seller says he doesn't have the time or money to register the vehicle in California, so I'll need to handle that myself. I've checked the DMV website, but l've seen mixed information on Reddit about the exact documents required.
Can anyone clarify the process for registering a vehicle from Canada in California? Specifically: - What happens if the seller doesn't have any border documents? - Is it still possible to register the car in California? - Can I get a compliance letter from Toyota Canada even though I'm not the owner yet?
Also, does anyone know where I can check the VIN number for free?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
