Help Describing Spell Mechanics In-Game - Rounds, Turns, and Actions

Post Body

I am working on designing some in-universe spell scrolls that will also serve as full spell reference sheets for players. I am having trouble figuring out the best way to describe mechanics that involve rounds or turns.

For example, in Shocking Grasp, the target “can’t take reactions until the start of their next turn”. With Black Tentacles, you take damage if you begin your turn inside their area. There are many other examples, and I’m stuck on how to describe these from an in-universe perspective that still get the mechanics across.

Any suggestions are appreciated!
