I’m building my campaign world and it holds a lot of similarities to Europe/Asia/Northern Africa (on purpose). I wanted there to be a familiarity and to build countries where people can instantly understand the culture by city names, people names, and accents. I’m also using a lot of the old religions. Now, I’ve changed the names of countries, do I change the names of the gods too, or would it be easier to leave them the same?
I realize that even changing the country names and if I change the god names I’ll still get the “Oh, that’s the Thor god, what’s his name.” or even, “Oh, that guys from that Russian country. What’s it called again?”
I know this is likely to happen, but I think the country names would be easier to assimilate than the religions.
Thoughts?
