My players are helping an empire that is on the brink of annihilation after civil war, demonic incursion, as well as the awakening of a powerful named nightwalker, and will be passing through a medium town after three potential combat encounters while en route. I've got 4 ideas, but can't choose which of the 4 to go with. Which scenario sounds more cool:
A: The Undead Kingdom of Greymarch (Neutral-Evil Faction) crushed the rebels garrisoning and is now occupying the town, keeping it fed and secure, as well as restoring the living population count somehow. Why would they be here, and what do they stand to gain from helping?
B: A Sentinel (Holy Super Soldier) from the Imperium of Justice (Lawful Good Faction) arrived a month prior, purged the rebels, and is singlehandedly keeping the town pure and secure. Is this a good or a bad thing?
C: Rebels are occupying the town, and refuse to allow or tolerate anything or anyone relevant or related to the dying empire. The party is helping the dying empire, and have the empire's royal negotiator with them. The rebels will kill the negotiator and attack the party if they become aware of his presence or the party's affiliation with the empire.
D: The town seems to be fine, giving thanks to an "ancient ancestor" for guidance and protection, enough so that the town even has organized a militia to protect the hills and woods around it. Should the party be concerned or worried, considering demons and other factions are nosing around the empire's collapsing lands?
