TW: Suicide

So I've got my first legit dungeon for this game coming up, after running a test runthrough with my husband I realized that the parts didn't fit together to make a story that made sense so I'm scrapping the idea, keeping the map and loot and all that but I need help with the new story I've come up with. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. If you're interested in what I had formally you can see it on Notion here.

It's less of a story all fitting together and more a collection of vignettes showing the people that were left behind. I will say I was probably heavily inspired by the Little Nightmares series of games, that's the energy I'm going for if you have ideas for that.

Basically a city that continually sinks into magical lava beneath has to constant build on top of former buildings and sometimes people get forgotten or stay behind and the raw magical energy starts twisting and mutating them. The dungeon is a mostly collapsed section of a residential district. So using Ghasts as the base monster but reskinning them as mutated people.

They're usually twisted into perversions of their particular flavor of desperation or depression at the time they were sinking into this Chernobyl-esque magical radiation. So I have a baker that has mutated an extra arm because all she needed was help that she never got. I have a lonely bachelor that all he had was his correspondence, even after he got buried and could no longer send letters he kept writing. So maybe pen nibs for finger tips or something? Other than that I have a kitchen, attached to the bachelor's house (I'm thinking of having a noose here just hinting that the cook or maid whoever was left with this man found a quicker way out), A former fine mansion that probably belonged to a noble, a small prison lockup, a crumbling temple to the state sanctioned god, and a single traversable level of a tower that probably belonged to a minor wizard and a theater.

The boss will be in the theater, it's a twisted drider that has a cult running around the area. But I need ideas of what sort of mutations to give the monsters in these locations that will tell their stories in a moment. Feel free to go dark, eerie, creepy, tragic, my players love that stuff but I am really bad at thinking dark on my own. I like my stories to be happy lol.

Thank you!
