Research is just copying from many sources

Post Body

Drawing from sources you know well can help you bring detail from other worlds you love and use it to flesh out your own world. I remember that line from a writer being asked where they got their inspiration, but it applies for D&D too! When writing games, or even dialogue, take inspiration from what you know. You can almost directly rip off from some sources if you want, and if you are afraid of players knowing the source, that is where taking it from a few places comes from. Mixing a few worlds from comics, books, or shows blurs how easily people can recognize the source.

This works for players too; when I was playing a bard I was able to convince an old world hero to join us by almost word for word copying Iroh’s speech about destiny from avatar: the last airbender, and no one realized until after the session and I said that’s where I got it from.
