So I'm thinking of throwing my hat into the ring and dming for the first time. I even came up with an idea for a campaign I really like, but I'm having difficulty with the idea so i decided to ask the wisest person i know Reddit.

The idea for the campaign is that the players are all runaways from an inter planar war that has been raging for millennia between the githyanki, githzerai and the vedalkan. With the help of a powerful wizard they are able to escape into a demiplane, but there is only enough supplies there to last them 10 years at most. So now they must find a new home on another plane. They have been searching for the past 3 years but with little to no luck. Each plane they search is either unlivable, hostile, or they never get a report back from the scout team and decide the plane is not good. The wizard has found a new plane that seems promising and is seeking a new bunch of pathfinders to make the dangerous trek to see if the planet hospitable. That is where the players come in.

This idea really is great because we can start playing asap and I dont have to build some big world map until down the line. I would mainly just focus on their starting area and some of the surrounding places until they got adventurous enough to explore their new home.

I want this new plane they find to be wild and somewhat primitive. I also plan on making this a bit of a survival game so they will need to be careful with their resources. I really dont want them to find another civilization till far down the road. I want them to in-game to build their own city I dont want them to just assimilate into another culture. The problem is I have no clue how to make it so that they are wandering thru the woods for months and not able to find any civilization and not make it feel boring. I'm obviously going to have ruins of some ancient lost culture, but they arent going to know anything about this world until they finally meet someone from a far off city. Help me reddit what do I do?
