Hey guys! I wanted a thread to share some fun and engaging interactions we use in our campaigns to make them feel more alive, but also occasionally break immersion and make DND feel ridiculous and like a game! I’d love some tips on one of my personal favorite encounters I’ve tailored that I call King Of The Ring;
A human barbarian, high str, con and Charisma is challenging people to a KING OF THE RING style fight. The winner gets to claim his Belt of The Champion (adv on grappling checks)
His name is Shane “The Boulder” Shawnson.
Have the character use their strength or con or Dex to wrestle against The Boulder, occasionally stop the fight to have the Boulder hype up the crowd with Charisma checks vs the PC’s. Whoever rolls a better Charisma roll a d6
1.) The crowd goes wild! Winner of the Charisma check has ADV on the next Charisma check!
2.) The crowd roars in bloodlust, a chair/ladder/blunt object is tossed on your side of the ring.
3.) The Crowd chants your name! Have advantage on your next Grappiling, Acrobatics or Athletics check.
4.) A tomato flies at MACH speeds to hit the player who lost the CHA check, he takes 1d4 - 1( minimum of 1 DMG)
5.) A group of people have painted your name across their chests and are cheering as loud as they can, your opponent has disadvantage on their next CHA check.
6.) For one turn, one of your allies hops in the ring as a guest star to help you. Where you would roll 1 Damage die this round, roll 2. (Encourage choreographing this!)
Have a bard or two playing The Boulders theme song as the player challenges him. This can be played at ANY level and is a fun NON-Life Threatening situation for all players. I try and put this in every one of my campaigns somewhere!
I also like to let the players think on their feet. Maybe I’ll let you use slight of hand while you take 1/2 damage to slip out of the grapple. Maybe your so acrobatic you could leap over the Boulder as he lunges into the side of the ring, smacking his head!
The Boulder has TWO legendary actions he may use as a bonus action Once Each Per Match
Thine Peoples Elbow ( 2d4 str) MAX DAMAGE AUTOMATICALLY IF OPPONENT PRONE
And The Eyebrow (intimidating gaze) (Wisdom Save against Boulder Charisma or be paralyzed in fear for one round)
What would you change or add to this? Also what are some of your wacky encounters? I would love to include some of this communities ideas in my campaign.
