So remember in Dragon Age origins when you try to get the urn of the sacred ashes? Before the trail of riddles there is that Guardian that judges your choices and those of your party?
Yeah I thought it would be fun to have an encounter with such an entity. This guy they can either fight or be judged. He even says this. "Stand ready to fight or be judged. Refuse to do either and you shall never pass."
So not feeling like a fight they take the second option. Which is where the issue arises. See this guy plays devil's advocate 100% of the time putting all your choices in a bad light and this guy somehow knows everything.
This becomes a problem when I actually start the judging. The cleric steps forward first and says "judge me if you can, spirit." So I do. "You think yourself a hero, but dare not sacrifice the smallest thing. You think to apologise with gold but no gold can repay the damage you have done. You turn a blind eye to any problems that do not get you fame and glory."
"You merely pretend not to want payment for what you describe as good deeds. Never more upset than when someone does not offer rewards."
This however does not fall well with the cleric player. He gets angry and walks out.
I'm not saying this can't be a fun role play encounter. Just be kind not everyone takes criticism, however baseless, well.
Edit: I've had a talk with them this is just a heads up.
Maybe the player does not see a divide between themselves and their PC?
I very much think so. Fact of the matter is I should've paid more attention and seen this coming, because in hindsight it was kinda obvious.
I guess that should be the warning. Not don't judge your players in this way, but look out what you say to who.
Well it's not a mistake to include it. It was a mistake not to think about my player's reactions in advance.
A good solution had I not intended to only judge the PCs not so much the player. I stand by that I made a mistake in not seeing this coming, but in this case it was the PCs actively choosing to be judged rather than being trapped.
That also doesn't sound like much of a fun session idea to begin with.

This is going to sound really snarky and I apologise. If the cleric had left rather than the player I very much doubt I would have made this post.
It was really just poor wording on my part.
