My next session takes place in a kingdom that basically has a population of paladins and Nobel fighters with the more common folk being at least slightly less self-righteous. I would like the king to task the level 4 PC’s with finding out why single and paired patrols into the local forest/villages end in one member of the duo cut to bits by a military blade and the other body missing.
The culprit is either a lone sucubous or a pair of siblings. If there were more than one I would say that the number of missing guards Is equal to the number of fiends as if they liked to take the bodies somewhere specific before delivering their kiss. My party can easily take care of 2 maybe even 3 in an “Arena” situation, so the unexpected kiss before combat officially starts is very important to engage them.
My question is, how do I get my party to make these saves without arousing suspicion? And if I do get them to fail and be charmed, how do I deliver the commands/flirtatious messages to the player without having the entire party say “my character ties the rouge to the tree for no reason” or “ I ready action to attack the next pretty lady I see” when the characters are oblivious.
So far my party contains one Artificer, two Clerics (war, life), one Druid, and one Wizard. Which make pretty good wisdom saves. Should I just make the saves charisma instead to widen my options or would that be unfair.
I am pretty new to DM’ing so thanks in advance.
