I have been working on a homebrew and wanted some feedback on this puzzle idea.

Grinch Lair

Players have tracked Santa to Grinch’s lair, but a massive ice door blocks their way. There are no visible locks or handles, only an intricate design of frost-covered symbols on the door.

The symbols are: a clove of garlic, a cactus, a crocodile, a spotted moldy tomato, a pile of unwashed socks, and a three decker sauerkraut and toadstool sandwich with arsenic sauce.

Puzzle:

- Players need to press the symbols in a specific order to open the door. The order corresponds to the sequence of You’re a Mean One Mr Grinch

- The clues are hidden in a festive riddle that the players can decipher if they pay attention to the environment. With a successful investigation check, players can make out a sign above the door that says “You’re a Mean One Mr Grinch”

Hint/Resolution: The players need to correctly identify the carol from the clues and press the symbols in the right order. If they do so, the door opens with a satisfying sound of Max barking. If they fail, the door might trigger a trap, like a burst of cold air that deals damage or a snowfall that obscures vision, and hear an eerie Grinch cackle.

Correct order: Cactus-Garlic-Crocodile-Socks-Tomato-Sandwich
