Trying to make travel engaging has always been a challenge in my experience. Had an idea last night at my table, and my players had fun with it.

While canoeing down a jungle river, Our adventurers witness a beautiful scene of a mother Giant Crocodile preparing her nest on the beach with her babies. Suddenly a Kamadan attacks, its snake heads are looking to eat delicious baby crocodiles.

I gave two of my players the Stat Block for each creature and they fought to see if Momma crock or the Kadaman came out victorious.

I tried my hardest to do my best nature documentary narration to match the scene.

My players got to experiment with new creatures, and got the chance to fight each other without it being a high stakes battle. It ended up being a really fun mid session scene.
