So, my party recently killed a Salamander and while one member took the head as proof of kill for a reward, our Ranger wanted to skin it and perhaps get it made into magic gear down the line. I don't have any problem with this at all. The only issue is, how much would this weigh?

A Salamander is a fairly large creature. When they first encountered it, they estimated it to be at least 20 feet long, and it's torso is at least the size of a large human's torso, so it should be fairly heavy, right? After the session, the Ranger and I talked things over and surmised that a Salamander probably weighs about the size of a small adult elephant, or about 2 tons, and it's skin is maybe 1/8th of that, or about 500 lbs.

Does anybody have any other/better estimations of how much this should weigh?

Also, feel free to shout out any ideas about what the skin could be made into - I haven't yet decided.
