Ok. Medusa petrification effect cause creatures within 30ft to turn to stone if fail a save. We all know that. Here is my question

A mage uses his familiar to fly his owl within 30 feet of a Medusa, does the wizard 60ft away get affected by the petrification that affects the owl because he is viewing the Medusa thru the owls eyes?

I say no, because it only affects creatures within 30ft and the wizard is 60ft. Fellow DM is adamant that the wizard is affected because his eyes is the owls eyes.
