Another library management question
Post Body

Hi,

Just wanted to see what others are up to:

I play about 1 event per month. Usually friend parties, hotel lounge, etc. Usually some mixture of Tropical Disco, House, World Music.

I have about 1000 songs on my hard drive.

More and more I’m finding myself with about 2-3 constantly evolving playlists that I just update for the next event.

For instance, I recently played an outdoor BBQ for about 3 hours. I had 80 songs on a playlist and used about 50-60 of them.

In September I’m doing a Bday party that will require a similar vibe. So what I’m doing is taking the playlist from the BBQ, tossing some songs, and adding some new songs. This becomes a new working playlist.

I try to throw out 1 song for each new song I get, but it’s probably more like throw 1 out for each 2-3 new songs.

I’m really starting to dislike all the bloat and questioning the utility of having so many songs.

Of course, there’s lots of songs that I haven’t used in 2 years yet I someone think that, one day, I’ll absolutely NEED that song. But will I?

Anyway, kinda vague but wondering others philosophy towards managing an ever growing library.

Thanks!
