my friend tried "teaching" me
Post Body

Ive been around a lot of djs since like 2017 but I just started learning to dj. Ive known how to play songs on cdjs and ddjs since early 2017 but only recently became interested in learning to mix for my own enjoyment and have no interest in playing shows. Ive(29) played music since I was 5, starting on piano and moved to cornet then trumpet then all brass then drum kit then percussion and drum line. I treat djing as playing another instrument and im very technical in the way I do things. One of my friends with a ddj100srt invited me over so I could practice since I've only been playing on virtualdj on my laptop. I went over there and realized I would have to download serato and analyze all my music on there. I was going to use his laptop and music. so I just played a song to break the silence and I was looking thru the music and at the controller and serato since I've been just playing on lappy. About 30 seconds of me trying to familiarize myself and he picks a song and spins it to a drop and started telling me Iv needed to put more energy in and hurry up and bring in the next song and starts adjusting all the knobs and setting cues and just saying so many thing that I need to do. He got frustrated and was like dude stop lemme get my bearings and then he said " I can't teach you if you're just gonna get mad and not listen" he said I was doing enough and that he sweats every time he djs and he doesnt even dance. I just want to chill and play and he plays a lot more intensely which I dont get. Anyways how do I explain to him that I play in a different way than he does and get him to help me when I need it but not hijack me when im just trying to practice?
