Help connecting hose to indoor tap

This blue hose and adapter looks identical to the hose I have, it expands in length the more water is put into it. however if you look on the second picture water leaks between the two black parts at the end of the hose. They don't seem to be able to come apart but I thought I could use tape to cover it up, the smaller bottom part seems loose which is letting the water out.

The other question is to do with the connector at the other end. This was not given with the hose so we had gotten a Hozelock adaptor, there is two of them with different sizes and one has the metal band around it that you can twist to tighten but the problem is they don't seem to connect to my kitchen or bathroom taps. These are the kind of taps I have.

And so the only way to fit them on is to practically cover the whole tap which just forces water out the other end. Are these hoses meant to just be for people with outdoor taps? I could see how the adapters might work if you have a mixer tap or am I not putting it on properly? The end of the taps are so small, I don't see any other way of connecting them. I thought maybe I had put the nozzle on the wrong end and tried to see if they could be swapped over but it doesn't look like it. It would be nice to get it all working if possible. I've looked around to see if maybe there is more to the Hozelock adaptor and I'm supposed to attach something else but I can't see anything else. Thanks!
