Question about surface finish when joining green board to durarock

I'm remodeling a bathroom and the ceiling transitions from durarock to green board. My buddy wants the ceiling painted but the texture from the durarock is different than the greenboard. Anyone have any suggestions on how to finish the ceiling so it looks uniform? I'm thinking knockdown or popcorn but I'd like other suggestions too. Thanks!
