I am currently building end tables for my couch (nothing special, just 4 legs, a cleat at the bottom to hold it together, and a surface). I would like to have a multi-outlet extension cord run through the top, so that if I or anyone wanted to plug something in, they wouldn't need to move the couch or end table. I would like to have the multi-outlet opening of this through the top of the table, but don't want a massive hole through the top of the table. Having no experience with anything electric, I'm not sure this is possible, but I would like to be able to cut the extension cord and reattach it after feeding the wire through the top of the table, so the hole in the table top only needs to be the diameter of the extension cord. Would I be able to just use wire caps to reconnect the wires, or am I playing with fire (pun intended) with this idea?
