Stained this table with tie dye. Going to stain it darker. Hardware store said it would be hard to cover

I'm going to sand it a lot first to try to lighten out that dark spot, and it's okay if it's not perfect. Anything I should do specifically?

Why not spray a bleach solution on it before sanding it.

I've been a carpenter for 25 years, and it's always frustrating to me that everyones first option is to grab the sander. Wood is basically just a cellulose sponge. Many stains can go pretty deep and sanding them out will remove way too much wood.

You can also try oxyclean or oxalic acid wood bleach.

Another way to hide the dark spot it to just cover the entire thing with the offending stain first, just to make it all uniform, before doing anything else to remove it.

That's awesome! Keep us updated with pics!

Hopefully you're wearing gloves, bleach is stong stuff, and a little goes a long way.

Hell yeah! Great work! Thanks for the update!

The dye is likely stained deep into the wood. It's not paint on the surface...

Most stains on wood can be removed chemically much easier than mechanically...

No, you are supposed to cover your body with adhesive sandpaper sheets, drink the bleach, and then lay across the table and put that chlorine induced seizure to work!
