How to finish cedar beams?

Post Body

Added these 4x4 cedar beams to pony wall. I sanded them down to 220 grit. How should I finish? I don’t care to match the existing wood necessarily but just want it to look as nice as possible and durable to little hands and stuff

Definitely avoid any film forming finishes on cedar. It's too soft, and every little dent will leave a weird white bruise.

Use danish oil or tung oil. Apply several coats. Preferably outdoors or a shop with good ventilation before bringing inside.

That's the stuff! You'll want to apply at least 2-3 coats with a few days in between each one.

Regular watco danish oil is pretty good. Just make sure to crack some windows
