Trying to update a “retro can”. However, this one has a top spring. Do I cut it out? Or ignore it? Or are there some type of items that use that top spring?

Post Body

Attempting to update lights above shower. Ran into something so not normal Ran into something so not normal Google doesn’t recognize it.

The guy at Lowe’s said just take out the metal down and update the can by removing it from my ceiling. And he gave me a different system to add from the ceiling.

I figured there must be some reason to keep the spring? or do I just drill into the can and add some kind of light holder?
