I have been working with a laser frequently as of late to create objects I need for my apartment. One constraint is that it can only cut 1/4" plywood so I have to get a bit creative with aspects of the construction.
A persistent pain point is how to attach hardware to it. Say wheels or a corner bracket. With 1/4" plywood there isnt a lot to drill through and hang onto. I am worried the screws will wear out quite quickly.
I realize I could glue another board of plywood and make this problem mute. But this is not appropriate for every application.
What are some other techniques I might use to help me get away with putting hardware through 1/4" plywood?
Do there exist sort of nuts I can put on either end of the screw that have friction to sort of spread out the load of the screw over a wider area?
Special screws that are especially good at not wearing out in the horizontal plane?
Screws that are just a little bit smaller than 1/4 inch?
Open to any and all ideas of how to make these kinds of things work.
