How to best re-attach gate to fence

We had a windy day and the gate broke away from the fence, leaving gaping screw holes. The wood is really dry which is probably why it splintered and gave out so easily. Iām thinking anchors with longer screws, but I wanted advice first because I need to get it right the first time!
