Did I make a mistake by choosing stain instead of paint for my siding?

Hello, I’m wanting to cover the two walls of a new addition to my grandparents house. They are roughly 20 feet and 15 feet and the sides are some type of wood panels but I don’t know the name of it. I chose to use stain for them instead of paint but was only able to cover less than half of one wall with about a gallon of stain.

The can said it was for decking and wood siding but I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be more economical to use primer paint instead since I would probably need to buy like 2 or 3 more gallons of stain to cover both walls and add another coat. Even though I already used one gallon I don’t want to get stuck in a sunk cost type of mindset and end up paying more on the long term. I’ve attached some pictures and any help would be appreciated.
